Forward Kinematics -- The Robot Arm.
This assignment will introduce you to animation hierarchies and forward kinematics. I will not be giving you as explicit instructions as before, so to some extent you will have to figure out how to accomplish these tasks yourself.

Acceleration & Deceleration.
I've always hated jerky exact computer movement, keyframe animation is a fantastic way to animate but can leave the movement all too unnatural. Proper keyframing will improve this, but with track-view animation editing you can achieve this with out too much hassle.
Create a simple animation. In this example, a sphere animated from left to right over 100 frames is enough to see the effect. Go into the track-view and highlight the transform-position of the sphere. It will be necessary to toggle the assign controller (Top tollbar) button and select XYZ Position. Then, after selecting the X Position, (In my case I animated along the x axis only so the other two don't matter) you will see a Linear Curve, this strait exact line is creating the exacting jerky movement. By right clicking on any of the keyframes you will open the property inspector, hold down the ease in or out buttons and select the very last selection. This is a beizer corner, so grab the toggle handle and make it flat. You now have created a logarithmic curve and this causes the "tweening" frames to act in a more natural way.

How to animate a Dolphin.
You can animate a dolphin using bones, just like in LightWave 3d, but if you want to do the same on 3DStudio Max you will need physique or use morphs targets, but the final result won't be enought, morphing between meshes will do the movement, but not the perfect effect that the dolphin is moving across the ocean. Using bones can be a long way also,so what can we do?, well, we can take advantage of the animatings tools from max, this is only a tutorial on how to animate,so don't bother about the ocean or the scene,it only explains the movement.

Bullet Time.
This Tutorial is based on The Matrix key effect "Bullet Time." By using Keyframes it is relatively easy to set up the shot, however if you want to use the effect without Keyframes (e.g. Particles), you would have to do it traditionally. For this project, the idea is to render three separate shots, one for the effect and two others for the start and end animation. By deleting the key frames, you can pause time and animate a camera along a motion path.

Advanced IK Setups.
This tutorial is for advanced users. Before reading this, please have a working knowledge of 3Dstudio Max's "New IK", or IK in general. In this tutorial you will be using 3D-Studio Max's "New IK", and Expressions to create 2 advanced setups.
This setup can be done in any package, including: Alias/Wavefront's Maya, and Softimage|3D. The tools are different, but the idea isnt.

Rolling A Ball Along A Path by Ben Cowell .
This is a very simple tutorial describing how to animate a ball or a wheel rolling down an irregular path. It was devised by my in answer to a need for a car which could drive around corners but still have the wheels rotate accordingly. I assume you know a fair amount about MAX and won't bother explaining every little detail.

Creating a Walkthrough .
This tutorial shows how to create an animated walkthrough of your AutoCAD 3D model using 3D Studio VIZ. All you need to start is an AutoCAD drawing with some 3D content. The end result will be a .AVI file which can be viewed on any Windows PC. AVI files can also be embedded within PowerPoint presentations along with text and other graphics to really demonstrate your design proposals.

Lip Sync - Making Characters Speak.
Chances are if you've ever animated a character, you've needed or wanted to make it talk, sing, or otherwise communicate via dialogue of some sort. Lip sync is the art of taking a pre-recorded track of dialogue, and making a character appear to speak it. This involves figuring out the timings of the speech (breakdown) as well as the actual animating of the lips/mouth. In addition making the actual setup or mouth phonemes needed can also be considered a part of the entire Lip Sync process for 3D.

Making objects splat.
This tutorial is going to introduce metaballs and a few tricks within max. Basically what it is going to cover is how to get an object to fly at another object at high speed and splatter allover it, primarily using particles and a tiny bit of key framed animation. This tutorial assumes you know a bit about max, and as always the more you know the better.

Bullet time in 3DS MAX w/o scripts..
How to make effect of frozen time in 3DS MAX? Such effect in cinema is made that way. At the same moment the scene is shot by multiple cameras from different angles and positions on the path. Shot frames sequence are collected in video. As a result spectator gets impression of a moving camera at the frozen world. This method can be used in your 3D scene by placing more then 30-60 cameras on the path. The same frame must be rendered from each of placed cameras. Rendered frames sequence must be collected in animation (where first frame will be rendered image from the first camera on the path and last frame will be rendered image from last camera on the path). But it is inconvenient and hard correcting method. In order to optimize this work a number of scripts (3ds max) are written such as "MAxTRIX". Creating such scripts supposes that there is no possibility of optimizing this task by standard features of 3DS MAX. But as it turned out it is not true.
