Artist in Action - Scott Eaton
Be prepared for some seriously challenging instruction! This lesson is project-based, with Scott leading you on a course of study inspired by "Milon de Crotone", a masterpiece by 18th century artist Edme Dumont. Yet this is just the first part, "Studying from Reference"! Future installments in the series will continue with "Studying from Life" and "Working from the Imagination". In short, you're getting a crash course in what Scott has spent a lifetime mastering.

ZKETCH PAD
Zketchpad has been designed to bring the script up to date for ZBrush 2, while also introducing some powerful new features that weren't possible before. Most noticeable is the introduction of Environments. This powerful -but little known - aspect of ZBrush lets users set up unique interface customizations for specific purposes. The Zketchpad Environment, for example, gives easy access to all features that will commonly be used while sketching in ZBrush. Features having to do with modeling or even painting are removed from view (although still accessible via the palettes). This helps you to focus much more easily on what you launched Zketchpad to do: sketching! The built-in tutorial (accessed by pressing the "About Zketchpad" button) explains how you can modify the Zketchpad Environment for your own preferences.

- Easily place 3D objects relative to each other in 3D space.
- Pick up and edit/transform any object after it has been dropped.
- Replace any object on the canvas with another.
- Edit or transform all the objects as a single group.

ZQUICK MASK
ZQuickMask is a plugin for anyone who wants to paint their own masks.
Click the button to enter 'mask mode'.
Paint your mask. You can use any alpha or stroke.
Shift+click the button when you've finished to convert to stencil.
The mask is 'flat', with no depth info or soft edges: ideal for masking areas of a 2.5D painting before applying color or materials. Use ZQuickMask to create stencils for use in Projection Master to help texture models. When using with Projection Master it is best to make the mask/stencil before using Projection Master.

Power of Two
As you probably already know, the recommended size for working with textures in ZBrush (and most other 3D applications) is a power of two. For example: 512x512, 1024x1024 or 2048x2048. This will give the best results when calculating AUVTiles or GUVTiles UV mapping, as well as when texturing the model with Projection Master. PowerOf2 is a very simple plugin that places six new buttons into the Texture palette. Clicking any of these buttons will immediately create a new texture of that size, ready to go.
